Fun Facts!

Did you Know?

Neocaridina

"Neocaridina shrimp are native to freshwater streams and rivers of East Asia, where they evolved to thrive in a wide range of conditions. This adaptability is why Neocaridina davidi has become one of the most resilient and genetically diverse shrimp species in the aquarium hobby. Selective breeding has since produced the vivid color morphs seen today."

Did you know?

Caridina

"Caridina shrimp have specialized mouthparts and gut microbes adapted to digest biofilm rich in microorganisms rather than larger food sources. This evolutionary trait comes from their origin in nutrient-poor mountain streams, where survival depended on efficiently processing microscopic organic matter."

  • 1.) -Tank Setup-

    1️⃣ Choose Your Tank

    Best: 10 gallons

    Smaller option: 5 gallons

    More water = more stability.

    .

    2️⃣ Add Substrate & Hardscape

    • 1–2 inches of sand or fine gravel
    • Shrimp-safe rocks or driftwood

    More surfaces = more grazing.

    .

    3️⃣ Fill & Condition

    • Pour water slowly (use a bowl/plate)
    • Add water conditioner while filling

    Clear, calm start.

    .

    4️⃣ Start Equipment

    • Turn on sponge filter
    • Heater ~70–72°F if needed
    • Keep filter running 24/7

    Consistency is key.

"Your tank is now set up and ready for cycling."

  • 2.) -Tank Cycle-

✅ Step 1: Set Up the Tank

    • Filter running
    • Heater 72–78°F (if needed)
    • Substrate, plants, hardscape added
    • Fill with dechlorinated water

Why: Bacteria grow on these surfaces.

    ✅ Step 2: Add Ammonia

    • Use liquid ammonia or fish food
    • Raise to about 2 ppm

    Why: Ammonia feeds beneficial bacteria.

    ✅ Step 3: Test & Wait (3–6 Weeks)

    Test every 2–3 days.

    You’ll see:

    • Ammonia ↑ then ↓
    • Nitrite ↑ then ↓
    • Nitrate ↑

Why: This means the nitrogen cycle is forming.

    ✅ Step 4: Confirm It’s Ready

    Tank is cycled when:

    ✔ Ammonia = 0
    ✔ Nitrite = 0
    ✔ Nitrate present
✔ 2 ppm ammonia clears in 24 hrs

    .

Do a 50–80% water change — then add shrimp 🦐

    .

    Nitrogen Cycle:

    Ammonia → Nitrite → Nitrate

    Stable water = happy shrimp.

  • 3.) -Acclimation-

    1️⃣ Float the Bag – 30 Minutes

    • Place the sealed bag in your tank for 30 minutes to match temperature.
    • Do not open the bag yet.

Why this matters: Sudden temperature changes can shock shrimp and cause stress or death.

    2️⃣ Transfer to a Container

    • Pour the shrimp and bag water into a clean cup or bowl (not the shipping bag).

Why this matters: A stable container makes drip acclimation safe and prevents spills or stress.

    3️⃣ Drip Acclimate – 60–90 Minutes

    • Use airline tubing to drip tank water into the container at
    • 1–3 drops per second for 60–90 minutes.

Why this matters: Slow mixing lets shrimp adjust safely to differences in pH, GH, and TDS.

    4️⃣ Net & Release

    • Gently net shrimp into the tank.
    • 🚫 Never pour bag water into your aquarium.
    • Keep lights off for a few hours and wait 12–24 hours before feeding.

Why this matters: Shipping water can contain ammonia buildup. Keeping things calm reduces stress.
